Baur au Lac
The magnificent Baur au Lac hotel is almost 173 years and is still in the hands of same owner family. Opened in 1844 by Johannes Baur, it was built right beside the lake with a view of the Alps.
The Baur au Lac, still more of a large villa, has reached its present size by 1898. Kings and conquerors have bedded under its venerable roof. Today, statesmen and diplomats more regularly take their place. The hotel exercised a special magic and power of attraction over large numbers of the European aristocracy, and artists and intellectuals from around the globe.
Set in its own picturesque park on the lakeshore, the Baur au Lac is only a few minutes’ walk from Zurich’s financial district and the world-famous Bahnhofstrasse shopping street.
- The distinctive elegance of its 119 guest rooms, junior suites and suites (from 25sq.m. up to 110sq.m.) have earned the hotel its enviable reputation. Magnificent new suites have been crafted on four floors. Each room is individually decorated following a variety of styles, such as Art Deco, Louis XVI and Regency and offers the ultimate comfort, luxury and privacy.
- The fine dining restaurant Pavilion is blessed with almost 360° glazing. It features a fresh, dynamic and contemporary interpretation of classic haute cuisine.
- For business and other events venues, the hotel offers an array of salons of varying sizes and designs.
An encyclopedic wine list reflects the unrivaled expertise of the Baur au Lac’s own winery. The Terrasse is undisputedly the most exclusive place in Zurich. The Rive Gauche restaurant offers fine casual dining – the ideal place for hotel guests to mingle with Zurich’s youthful, cosmopolitan society.
